Jacob's House is a 25-year-old vision God placed in my heart to serve the neglected and overlooked in our society as the hands and feet of Jesus. My first thought was an orphanage until 2005 when a missionary prophetically instructed me to return to school and educate myself for missions. In 2012, while interning for my master's program, I discovered a disconnect between aged-out foster youth and their post-high school education at the 2-yr college level. This reality became the focus of research, and my lifework in urban missions was clear!
The purpose of our organization is to provide the necessary support to aged-out foster youth during the first critical two years of transition from foster systems to emerging adulthood. Our passion is to improve pathways to educational opportunities for foster students by relentlessly pursuing change and transformation as we do "life" with them. We hope to positively impact the social issues of homelessness, lack of education, and unemployment in the city of Fresno and alleviate some of the social stigma often associated with the AFY community.
To equip and support AFY students for the challenges of higher education and positive transformation. 💞
